“Practical Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture"
to be held on
November 5, 2025, from 10:00 to 14:00 in Novi Sad, Serbia
The climate of the Carpathian Basin is warming faster than the global average, leading to more frequent heatwaves, droughts, and extreme weather events. These extremes cause significant damage to agriculture, which—besides its economic impact—negatively affects the livelihoods of rural populations and the food sovereignty of our countries.
Large-scale farming, plowing, the use of artificial fertilizers, and deforestation drastically reduce soil nutrient content, hinder humus formation, and eliminate water retention capacity, making constant irrigation inevitable. The removal of vegetation cover further leads to soil erosion and degradation.
In Hungary, climate adaptation is gaining increasing attention—not only at the level of government policy but also among economic stakeholders. Due to the rising frequency of drought years, there is growing demand in our region for agro-technical solutions and tools that support the natural water retention of soil, as well as for climate-resilient plant and animal genetics.
The farming community in Serbia, and especially in Vojvodina, is particularly exposed to the impacts of climate change.
